What is the difference between Ellacor® Micro-Coring and Laser Coring?

Some similarities include:

While both Laser Coring and Ellacor® Micro-coring represent innovative approaches to skin rejuvenation through tissue removal, they achieve this goal through fundamentally different methods. Both technologies create precise micro-channels in the skin to promote tissue contraction and tightening, ultimately replacing damaged tissue with renewed, healthier skin. However, the similarities end with their basic objective.

There are many Key Differences:

Invasiveness:

Ellacor® uses hollow needles for micro-coring or tissue coring, which is more invasive, painful, and like having a sewing machine over your skin. Quite the opposite, UltraClear™ is the 2nd generation of coring technology, and the first ever laser-coring technology, removing tissue in a much more gentle, non- invasive way, while also being much more effective.

Technology differences:

Micro-Coring with Ellacor® is a one modality, needle-based (mechanical) technology, whereas UltraClear™ is two technologies in one — the first ever cold fiber ablative laser AND a Laser-Coring device, giving a total skin rejuvenation concept. Pain Potential:

Because of the needle-based puncture system of Micro-Coring, patients need a nerve block for pain management. On the contrary, Laser Coring with UltraClear™ uses topical numbing only, as the laser heat energy has a uniquely small laser imprint, resulting in a dramatically less painful treatment than all other deep laser resurfacing technologies.

Tissue removal method:

UltraClear™ uses laser energy to ablate and remove tissue, while Ellacor® uses hollow needles to physically extract skin columns. The thermal and ablative nature of the laser, combined with the 2910nm laser resurfacing, the benefits are far superior with UltraClear™.

Heat generation:

UltraClear™ generates heat during the process, which can promote collagen production and coagulation, while Ellacor does not provide any heat. This means more skin tightening, an immediate effect in tightening (Micro-coring is gradual), and much better results — think micro-needling pens, versus the dramatically more effective RF-based (radio-frequency) devices.

Bleeding potential:

Due to the laser’s ability to coagulate blood vessels, UltraClear™ Laser Coring results in less bleeding compared to Ellacor’s® micro-coring which has no heat and is needle-based. The small spot size of UltraClear™ also contributes to this, through a smaller footprint.

Customization:

Ellacor® micro-coring has very limited customization ability, and is only one technology. UltraClear™ offers more advanced technology, and more flexibility in targeting specific areas and skin concerns due to the laser precision, and over 100 different programs to customize the technology to a person’s individual concerns, and different conditions that are perhaps isolated to different areas of the face.

Skin Types:

Both devices have the advantage of treating all skin types and ethnicities, but there are greater risks with micro-coring than with UltraClear™ Laser Coring, such as scarring, pigmentation issues, and extended healing times.

Downtime

Ellacor® micro-coring usually takes 3–7 days of “social downtime” to let symptoms subside. Ellacor® uses hollow needles to remove skin tissue, and may cause some redness or swelling that usually subsides within a few days. With UltraClear™ Laser Coring one may need 2–3 days of downtime for modes that expose the dermis layer of the skin. Some people may experience mild redness or swelling in the treated areas, but this usually subsides within a few hours to a day. If UltraClear™ cold fiber ablative laser is combined with Laser Coring, then more erythema and edema will be present for 7-10 days or more.
