Long have been the days of our fight with stubborn issues around the eyes. Sometimes we may get puffiness from stress or a late night out, or maybe even when we wake up, but one thing is for sure, we have all at one time or another experienced the visual effects of imbalance showing around our eyes. If the eyes are the windows to our souls, then I want to do everything to keep my eyes beautiful. Here is a quick overview of some of the causes of puffiness under the eyes, as well as some of the cures:
Bags Under Eyes Causes:
- Salt — too much or too late at night
- Dehydration
- Lack of Sleep — sleeping flat on your back can also contribute
- Food Sensitivities
- Allergies — Environmental, also dermatitis (with accompanying itching)
- Aging
- Fat under the eyes
- Stress – it shows in the eyes first!
- Health Imbalance
- Genetics
How to Cure Bags Under Eyes:
1. Home Remedies
Not long ago we used ice, cucumbers, tea bags, and hemorrhoid cream to help our eyes. These can still be great options for a quick remedy, or for a beauty fix on a budget.
2. Eye Gels
The easiest place to start is an eye gel. Eye gels can be multi-functional with added benefits such as collagen stimulation, firming, and extra antioxidant protection.
3. Home Gadgets
A step up from gels, lotions, and creams, home-care gadgets can be a high performance option for an extra kick around the eyes. I love the opal, a small device by the makers of the Clarisonic brush. It puts 7,500 pulses into the eye area, and can make a nice change in the overall appearance of the under eye tissue in less than 4 weeks.
4. Surgery
For fat pockets under the eyes, no eye gel is going to do much. You will need to get a blepharoplasty to surgically remove the fat pockets under the eyes. This procedure is the most invasive, but for aging eyes, it also has the benefit of tightening as well.
5. Schedule a Checkup
Besides tuning in to your body and monitoring your sleep patterns and amount of sleep, stress levels, water intake, and nutrient dense diet, you may need to turn to a Naturopathic Physician or family doctor to rule out any underlying cause in the body. For example, kidney imbalance, and hormonal imbalances can contribute to bags under the eyes. There is also the aspect of food sensitivities that you may not even be aware of that can cause bloating or inflammation that can reflect in the skin. In relation, environmental allergies, may need to be addressed, such as through an allergy elimination program.
With much to consider, my philosophy is always to start with the least invasive option first, and then graduate from there. There is not a one-size fits all option for everyone, so it may be the process of elimination for each individual. As with all things, the outer usually reflects the inner, so remember, beauty is not just skin deep.
