Chemical Peels Aren’t Just for the Face – They Can Benefit the Body, Too!

With a wide variety of chemical peels to choose from, some of the best work on your face and body to even out skin tone, reduce acne and acne scarring, smooth lines and wrinkles, and improve skin texture.

What is a Body Peel?

A chemical peel on the body works by using chemicals to separate and remove dull, lifeless skin cells to reveal brighter, healthier-looking skin. Treatments range from a light peel that causes little to no skin damage to very intense peels that go deeper into the skin to remove more layers.

Many of these peels work well on the face and body. Skin on the face has fewer layers and more nerves than body skin, so some peels may not be appropriate for the face, or may need adjusting. Some peels can stay on the skin for different amounts of time for a lighter or deeper peel, depending on how long the chemicals have to work.

How Do Body Peels Work?

Body peels use a wide range of chemicals that work to break apart dull, dead skin cells and strip them away. In removing these outer layers of skin, a peel can also lift away signs of hyperpigmentation, scars, lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. Body peels are often performed on the back and chest but can be applied throughout the body. These three peels have become popular choices for body as well as facial peeling:

Vi Body Peel

This peel layers on multiple treatments for a medium-depth chemical peel that works with no pain, even though it uses powerful and effective acids. Despite being considered a medium-depth peel, Vi works gently enough to be used on sensitive skin like the face, hands, and chest. Its layers of treatment remove signs of aging and sun damage as well as acne scarring, unwanted pigmentation, and melasma. This peel is safe for all skin types and tones.

BioRevitalization Peel

The peel that isn’t really a peel, this treatment works as a collagen biostimulant. Safe for all skin types, this treatment requires almost no downtime, causes no discomfort, but achieves results that look like you had a deep restorative peel. This peel excels at removing scarring, sun damage, and loss of elasticity.

SaltFacial™

Geared toward improving dermal health, this peel uses a 3-step process to deeply resurface the skin. Your SaltFacial™ will include ultrasound therapy, deep skin resurfacing and LED light treatment. This treatment works for the body and the face to detox the skin of acne-causing bacteria. It also improves fine lines and wrinkles, large pores, and skin texture.

What is a Body Peel Treatment Like?

The peel will be applied to your skin in one or more layers and left on for the correct period of time. Your provider will talk to you before treatment about what your peel will feel like. Common sensations include tingling, stinging, or heat, depending on the depth of the peel.

Is There Any Downtime After a Body Peel?

For a mild skin rejuvenation peel, you may have no downtime at all, although you should avoid sun exposure for several days or as recommended by your provider. For a medium peel, your skin may appear red for a few days and will start to flake and peel. This turnover process is often complete within a week.
